 When you plan to start a business there are many things you need to consider.

  • The name of your business

  • Financial needs

  • Educational Needs

  • Money Resources

  • Location

  • Furniture

  • Target Market

  • Competition

  • Skills of a business person

  • Why you would make a good business person

  • Why do you want to do this type of business?

  • Short-term Goals

  • Long-term Goals

  • How do you plan to promote your business

  •  The Name of your business

There are specific directories to use for your business name search. Also check domain name sites for your business web page.

Financial Needs

What are your start up costs to get your business up and running? Estimate on Office space, furniture, computers, software programs, should be considered. Also office supplies, utility costs and mailings. Any decorating or accessories needed for your office space? Pre-plan what your operation will be then plan what you need to run your company. Where can you get things for free or used? (kijiji or craigslist) You don’t need everything to be brand new. Will you require any educational expenses? What Income will be needed to support yourself while attending school?

 

Educational Needs

What type of Education do you already possess? Is it relative to the company you plan to start? Do you need to go to college or university to obtain a degree? How much will it cost for you to take courses for part time or full time studies? (Refer back to Financial Needs)

 Money Resources

How do you plan to pay for your startup costs, location, etc?Will you need funding from Government Programs, Loans and Grants? A Bank loan? How is your credit score? What about a business loan, grant or program. Maybe you could get some investors? How much of your own funds will you be using? (your capital)

 Location

Are you using a home office or do you require office space in a commercial building? Do you need an office? What city and where will it be located? Do you have clients coming to the office? Is there parking space, close by? Are you in a good area for your company to profit? Is there competition nearby?

 

Furniture

Do you need a computer, printer, scanner, fax, or phone? Will you require an Internet connections, phone line, cable jacks, cable TV? Will you need a waiting area for you clients? Do you need office furniture like a filing cabinet, book case, desk, lamps, tables , chairs or a couch?

 

Target Market/ Competition

Have you researched the markets you plan to target? Have you researched other businesses similar to yours to find out their strengths and weaknesses? What’s your plan of attack on the market and how do you plan to promote your business?

Skills Assessment

Do you possess the Skills required to be a business person? What you think is required to be a good business person. Do you plan to be the sole owner or will you hire other managers and staff for your company? Why would you be good for this business?

 

Short-Term Goals

Make a list of 10 short term goals, things you can aspire and easily obtain.

 Long-Term Goals

Make a list of 10 long-term goals and what you will require to meet them.

 In Conclusion

This doesn’t have to be just a plan to start up a company, this could be used for your personal life and goals and dreams too!
