Movie Review: Earth 2009

earth_mpl.jpg This movie was first released in 2007 in the UK, and now Earth  has finally come to North America on Earth Day!  Filmed for over a year the film crew followed 3 animal families survival techniques on earth.  The Polar bears, humpback whales and elephants and various other creatures.  My favorite was the little cute polar bears, it makes you just want to take one home and cuddle with it at bed time (yes I am a teddy bear person).  James Earl Jones  is the perfect voice for narration, clear and conscise and understandable.  The younger children were noisy and fidgeting in the movie theatre, so I would recommend this movie to children over the age of 7.  There are some scenes of violence where animals attack other animals but no blood and gore. (I was half expecting it to be like National Geographic.)  It is rather fascinating to learn about how animals survive in the wilderness and the final scenes where you drop down this long cliff, was causing a bit of motion sickness for me.  I really liked it at the end of the movie, they show clips of the camera crews mishaps while filming this documentary.  That alone was very entertaining! Overall its a lovely movie to watch with the family.  It can be classified as a bit boring though, no real action scenes but it’s more of an educational type of movie.  Many schools attended the theatre earlier in the day and I thought that was cool of them.  Imagine, going to a movie for a class trip!  We never got to do things like that when we were young.  The biggest trip I ever took was going to Brock University to watch a play on Macbeth.  I was so far in the back, and my eyes were blurry (found out later I was near sighted and needed glasses at the time.)  But it did give me a taste for the theatre.Personally the movie reminded me of the National Geographic David Suzuki TV shows, my Father used to watch during supper time.  I remember being angry at my dad for watching it and I told him don’t serve me any spaghetti when you have that show on (weak stomach here).   My dad’s no longer with me, but I kind of felt like he was there today with me in spirit and that gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling.  It was nice to see groups of families come out to the show and the little ones were sitting on their parents laps.  I felt like I was part of one big family and truly that is what EARTH DAY is all about.  A feeling of unity in the earth and with people.  United we stand, together we fall, or something like that.  Basically the idea is, that we take time out of our busy lives to celebrate this beautiful world we live in called Earth and we need to show it our appreciation and respect on a daily basis. This means getting involved in “green” projects and renewable energies and recycling .  Do what you can to save your planet and make our paradise what it should be!  If you have any comments to add to this or “green” ideas, then twitter the idea girl.  james-earl-jones-earth-2009.jpg
