Having Business Sense - Idea Girl Consulting
While I was at my exercise class today, I was talking to one of the ladies about my new career plans. I had started my own company “Idea Girl Consulting” and I would be writing my business ideas online. I try to update my site on a daily basis, but this week, it’s been hard to do so. The nice sunny weather has been beckoning me to come outside and walk, while enjoying the fresh air. At first I ignored it, but then one day while suffering from cabin fever, I took the plunge and decided to give in. Looking at the trees, I began to think about the ages of time. The tree looked like it had been struck by lightning and you could see it laying there with it’s rings in full view. Each ring, represents a facet of time. I was telling my friend Clyde that I thought it was either ten years or twenty-five years for each ring inside the trunk. Now I’m not too sure. I just looked it up on my Google Search Engine and I was completely wrong on both counts. In Wikipedia it says that “Dendrochronology is the study of the Growth rings, also referred to as tree rings or annual rings, can be seen in a horizontal cross section cut through the trunk of a tree. Growth rings are the result of new growth in the vascular cambium, a lateral meristem, and are synonymous with secondary growth. Visible rings result from the change in growth speed through the seasons of the year, thus one ring usually marks the passage of one year in the life of the tree. The rings are more visible in temperate zones, where the seasons differ more markedly.”
In that case, the tree would have been about 40 years old. Tree’s stand the test of time and we can learn a lot from them. They weather the elements of wind, rain, snow and destructive bugs. How many businesses can do the same? Could yours weather a few good storms? Can you be flexible and keep up with modern day technology, or will you consistently stick to your “old school” ways? That is the question my friend. For good business sense, you really need to keep yourself educated with the latest gadgets and business techniques that can help your business prosper and put you right in tune with your clients. I found Twitter to be a very useful resource. It’s a platform where I can display my work, gain friends and advisors and learn new things in technology, trade and the world. There are many categories of interest on Twitter, and when you do a search, you will find people who belong to such categories of interest. (i.e. - books, movies, science, inventions, space, music, marketing, networking, new technology, web design, business consulting and the list goes on.) Millions of people use this tool to communicate with the world and advertise what they have to offer. Sometimes the advertisements are repetitive and very unimaginative, ignore those. The interesting ones, pay tribute to, you can always gain some insight and learn something new. Not only does this exercise your brain, but it also helps to keep your memory cells sharp and intact. How many people take time to look at the big picture. We work all day on our job, rush around after work running errands, planning supper and then you drive home, frazzled and grumpy from the long traffic lines. All you feel like doing is eating, kicking back and relaxing. Who wants to take the time to educate the brain? I’m frazzled and weary, I can hardly keep my eyes open and you want me to learn something? Yes, that’s the point. Set aside time early in your day to educate your brain. Feed your body with healthy foods, exercise daily and don’t forget to exercise your Brain as well. It needs a good workout too!
