Movie Review: Race to Witch Mountain

race to witch mountainIn the”Race to Witch Mountain,”  Dwayne Johnson (the cab driver) is a comical, strong, muscular character who encounters aliens in the back seat of his cab.  He also has the mob after him.  He grows as a character during the movie and we find a hard nosed individual who has a heart of compassion for a couple of kids.  His character really moves the story along, whereas the aliens who look like humans but have absolutely no emotions in the first part of the movie, bring it to a standstill.  The aliens start to show some emotions as the story progresses but the action scenes are kind of a blur, you don’t see much of the facial expressions, mostly you see the back of their heads. However, this is a great movie for kids but from an adults perspective, the editing was sloppy, as one scene reverts into the middle of another and the plot was kind of hap hazard as it didn’t really explain what was going on in the movie.  It was hard to follow the dialogue and they kept backtracking in the story line. The most annoying thing about, “Race to Witch Mountain,” was that something would happen to the characters in a scene, then ten minutes later, the characters would explain why it happened.I wasn’t totally happy with this movie, I was kind of disappointed.  I would have rather seen it on DVD.  I think kids will love it though, it has action, adventure, suspense and good actors and actresses.  I think Anna Robb did a wonderful job portraying an alien with emotions. Alexander Ludwig, portrayed an alien that had no emotions but at the end, he breaks through and shows some.  Carla Gugino played an excellent Doctor who knows her stuff about outer space. At the end, during the credits, “Race to Witch Mountain” continues on for a few more minutes, so make sure you stay to watch the ending.  Overall, it’s a good family movie, but it may or may not appeal to the adults. You should rent the older version, “Escape to Witch Mountain.”  The story line is different and connects more with family values and you might find it more appealing then it’s remake.
