What to do during a blackout.

For the past few days, we have been having issues with the Hydro going off at variious times of the day in our city. It’s been quite annoying and scary, especially when you call Hydro One and your told they have no idea as to how long it will take to fix the issue. The first thing to do is find your flashlight. Hopefully you’ve kept it in a safe place along with lots of batteries in case your outage is for longer then a day or so. Another thing you want to have is lots of candles. I got to thinking about this the other day. I have about six candles in my cupboard and that might seem like a lot to some. But what if the power was out for about 3 days? Those candles only burn for about 2 hours at a time? It’s best to have some emergency candles on hand. i find the great big candle holders with 3 wicks are great to keep you warm and to give you more light. Make sure you have lots of matches or a lighter near by the candles. Nothing worse then scrambling around the house in the dark looking for a light for the candles that you do have. Wrap up in some nice warm blankets and have lots of water on hand for drinking. Always keep a supply of dry goods that you can eat during your outage. Try not to keep the fridge open for too long to conserve the cold air thats trapped in there. Go for a nice walk outside to clear your head and spend time with family and friends. Play a word game or a card game, or take some time to write in your journal. I found some batteries and put on my old walkman, it was great listening to the radio for a while. I couldn’t believe how quiet it was in the house with all the power off.
