Colourful Hat Boxes from Home Depot! Organize your office.
I think my hobby of collecting hat boxes and colourful boxes was the best thing I ever did. Not only does it make the room very colourful and pretty but it also is a great way to store things and remember exactly what’s in them.
Before I used the rubbermaid containers and they are great for big and bulky things like your summer or winter clothing. I got the clear plastic rectangular containers with lids for my gloves, hats and scarves and purses. They fit nicely under the bed and are easy and accessible to anyone who needs them.
I even use the colourful boxes to store my pens and notebooks and office supplies in. I found that I kept putting stuff in regular cardboard boxes up in the closet then I would happen to forget about it. This was not cost effective in any way, shape or form.
Now I can open the lid and do a quick inventory every month on what is needed and what may be required in the near future. I still haven’t found a container that is meditation related. I find flowers, chic prints and world travel pictures. I collect Paris, London and Italy art work as well as the little boxes.
I have since created several themes in my home and each has some sort of meaning to me. The desire to write and travel is in my office. My kitchen is of the cafe’s of Paris and London. The Living room is landscape pictures and works of art. The bedroom is a collection of older works of houses and people. I find I don’t look at my walls in my bedroom too much so I put the not so great stuff in there. If I ever get a larger home and more rooms I will put in a modern art area.
I have started with the metal works of art that can be picked up in the clearance section of Home Depot. That’s where I’ve found the majority of my treasures. I love to buy everything on sale. I did buy a venice case at full price. I figured with only two in stock and the chance that more would not be ordered; I grabbed it because I fell in love with the thing.
I kind of feel like I have travelled and picked up souvenirs along the way. Another great place to shop for world wide travel type gifts is in Niagara on the Lake. There are several shops there that focus on Scotland, England and Paris as well as third country works of art.
It’s just easier to work in an organized office if you take the time to do it. I saw a picture of a teacher’s office that used old leather suitcases for storage. It was a small room in an attic and this gentleman travels the world and takes all his earthly possessions with him.
He has his desk up for sale and gives an interesting story about what his life as a writer and teacher has been.
I was doing research on writing subsidies and contests through my cell phone. My hand gets sore from clicking on the little buttons so I’m going to suggest they it like the new monitors out on display. Touch and pull and it’s so easy! I can’t wait to get the money to do that. I sometimes go into Chapters just to play with the screen and do research on the types of books that are on sale and what will be available in the next month or so.
It’s a great way to research what trends of reading material is in demand and what is not.
